Station 03:57
Station I’m going down to the station To bide my time Ain’t gonna buy me a ticket I’ll just stand in line My baby left me on the 9:09 I’m gonna wait till she comes back For that blue ring That she left in the bathroom on the sink It’s got a sapphire and diamond That precious thing Do do do do... I hid it in my matchbox I’m gonna pawn it off If she does not come back for it That’s not my fault I’m going down to the station Give it one more try Because I’m on probation That’s when I’m gonna pawn it off If she don’t arrive Do do do do... I hid it in my matchbox I’m gonna sell it off If she does not come back for it That’s not my fault Gonna pawn it off, I’m gonna pawn it off I’m gonna pawn it off

Right 04:17
Right There is a prophet and a preacher The laws we know And those they write Wandering soul Darkness will grow into light Fear and pride The real struggle’s not outside No seeker, guide Tonight Everything is right Well, you can gaze up at the mountain Consider ways And weigh the odds Bewildered mind Basic, pure Turn the poison into cure Keep it light Tonight Everything is right Look inside Lucky you A ramblin’ ride Life applied Tonight Everything is right

Night Light 03:43
Night-light Waking up in the middle of the night Witchin’ hour, you look outside Love gone sour, the streetlight’s out Strange dreams, what about? Start to think, still got things to pay Can’t seem to make those blues go away Ooo, go away! Rolling on your right side And turn on the night-light You imagine his gentle hands On your curves; he understands What takes you higher, what makes you hum But he had a wife and a family Secret life, nothing’s free Ooo, nothing’s free! Rolling on your left side Eventually, you’re gonna get up And turn on the night-light Where’s your book? Try to read Men unhook, creatures creep All he took, you agreed! Night-light will help you to sleep Rolling on your back might Help you some, but it’s plain You’re gonna turn on the night-light Where’s your book? Too wired to read Friends unhook, men deceive You are shook by their greed Night-light will help you to sleep Help you to sleep, help you to sleep Help you to sleep, help me!

Cynic 03:47
Cynic Cynic, so quick to react You’re informed, impossibly intact What do what you mean It hasn’t a chance? If you’ve got all the answers, Man Then why don’t you tell us in advance? Cynic, so damn quick to rule You reign on down And make it sound so cool “This is a bore. That is a mess.” How you’d like it is anyone’s guess So why don’t we put you to the test? Come on now and show us how It was meant to be You create; it’ll be so great And we’ll all agree Thought provoking questions Not arrogant nonsense No hindsight suggestions Spare us your two cents Come on now and show us how It’s supposed to be Finally! Cynic, here’s what you can do We need someone to write letters to When we get the blues or feel distraught You can read what we have wrought Our dreams gone bad Please give it a thought

Blue Canyon 04:01
Blue canyon Blue Canyon Good as new Flying, endless view I am cool and awake Free’s what I feel No mistake I am the breeze on the lake Blue Canyon I feel new Good companion For Bodhisattvas that dance Everything’s like a romance Tempered and true I advance (I’ve made it!) I have made it (Now this canyon!) Now this canyon blue I have paid a price (For these wings!) For these wings And I sing the world tonight Blue Canyon I am nude Careless, too Unglued I have made some mistakes But it’s not true: we don’t break No one is through or at stake

Runaway train I’ve been feeling funny Can’t understand, don’t know why Everything’s so complicated Would someone please explain What we’re doing here on this Runaway train? I’m drinkin’ early, have to admit It stuns me some then I can’t quit Suddenly I’m on my knees and Looking up at the rain Asking what I’m doing on this Runaway train I used to play guitar every night Hardly needed much to feel at home Now I could use a bone... Well, everyone loved my blue, blue curls Drank with friends and sang to those girls Didn’t need much to make ends meet Now I need something to eat... I been thinking, it’s better to leave But these old bones have been bothering me Getting older and colder Sure don’t mean to complain But there must be a way off this Runaway train Does anyone know the conductor On this runaway train? Give me rain but get me off this Runaway train

Blue Voice 03:32
Blue voice Every night, every day To make it go away Blue blue voice And all the noise She could not keep at bay Praying to a distant god Who’s allowed it to be this way And the tears run To put out the pain One by one They come again Unannounced She’ll take the blame For something No one can explain And she hopes There’ll come a day When that blue blue voice In her mind Just goes away And the tears fall Where demons rejoice Distant call She had no choice Can’t stop at all Block out the noise And it’s no one’s fault That blue blue voice He’s dead and gone But something carries on It still hurts now That soulful song And if you think you can judge her You’re wrong
9.
Blue Pool 03:51
Blue pool Lazy morning, I’m in need Had a long night playing indeed People say my job is easy But don’t believe it’s true Oh I can’t wait to dive into that Blue, blue, blue pool And rivers of red, red wine But when you lose your grip, baby They call you the fool Oh, sugar mama please let me dive Into my blue, blue pool Well there’s nothing like jumping in Cool water on my skin Floating is like gliding on high Nothing to deny Sure, it’s a thrill to play And hammer it out on a stage Even though sometimes, baby People can be cruel Ooo, can’t wait to dive into my Blue, blue pool There ain’t nothing like getting in Skinny-dippin’ in my skin No one to deny Lazy morning, can’t wait To dive in and get things straight I’ve been working so hard lately It feels like goin’ to school Oh, time to dive into my My blue, blue, blue, blue pool

Angel to Me 04:29
Angel to me He was passing through when The car broke down Everything was blue And no one was around He happened onto you, then The sun came out You were just an angel Without a doubt Ooo, angel, and how She had inclinations Different from the rest Violent sensations And she put you to the test You made her feel at home And gave her dignity You were such an angel Anyone could see Talking ‘bout an angel And then you set her free Ooo, angel to me Angel in this cold, troubled place Angel without wings, not a trace Of things one might associate with angels But she’s got the cure She’s really an angel, that’s for sure I had come from Mars And thought I’d move down here It was clearly your world and my frontier You helped me to relate and remedy You were just an angel Looking after me I sure did love my angel And then you set me free Ooo, angel to me, ooo, angel to me Ooo, angel to me

about

Blue Shoe is the latest CD by singer-songwriter David Stockdale. It is
different from his previous CD's in many ways. First, it focuses more on the
Blues genre, though still having as its base an acoustic guitar and voice.
There are three crossover tunes (at the beginning, middle and end) that add
variety to the project, in particular the jazz piano solo on Blue Canyon, but
this is essentially a Blues CD. Second, Blue Shoe marks the first collaboration
with Silvio Piccioni, Italian guitar player and music producer who also writes
soundtracks for films. Piccioni adds an electric edge to the project, with the
exception of Angel to Me, in which even the solo is acoustic. His voice is
clear and distinctive and his background guitar parts rich and lush. Three
songs include a horn section that works in the upper register instead of
providing counterpoint for the bass lines, creating a lot of rhythm and punch.
The sound is familiar, but also unique: a fresh approach to a well established
genre. Maybe this is also because Stockdale lives and works in Italy and most
of the talent on the CD is Italian (with the exception of Nathan Striedinger's
drums). Stockdale also sings the background vocals, which makes for a more
homogeneous overall vocal sound as compared to his prior work that included
female vocalists. As usual in Stockdale's musical projects, the lyrics
constitute an essential part of the experience. For example, Station is the
story of a man whose woman has left him but she has also inadvertently left
behind a precious ring he hopes she'll come back for. She doesn't, of course,
because no amount of money will bring her back, and pawning the ring off
doesn't bring him the joy it should. This is Stockdale's first CD with Gas City
Records and the first time he has co-produced a project with another musician.
